Advance Salary Payment

Advance Salary Payment

Question:

A principal of an evening and weekend madrassah is in need of some money. He wants his salary for the forthcoming three months to be paid to him in advance. Will it be permissible for him to borrow that money in this manner? What happens if he fails to work for a few days in the forthcoming months? Will he have to pay back the amount for those specific days?

Answer:

الجواب باسم الوهاب المنان

It will be permissible for him to take the salary in advance. However, if he leaves the job or fails to work for a few days, he will have to repay the money for the period for which he had taken the salary but did not work.

Thus, in the above question, if he fails to work for a few days in the forthcoming months, he will have to pay back the amount, in proportion to the salary of those days. (Ahsan-ul-Fatawa: 6/447)
