Once a man went to a slave market to purchase a slave. A slave trader was presenting a slave for sale. He announced that this slave is perfect for general tasks; however, he has a small defect. That defect was the habit of talebearing.
The man thought that talebearing is not a major defect. Thus, he bought the slave and brought him home.
After some time lapsed, one day the slave went to his master’s wife. He told her, “Your husband has fallen in love with another woman and he wants to marry her.”
Shocked and bewildered, the wife enquired, “What shall I do to prevent him from that?”
“You must get some hairs from your husbands’ neck”, the slave replied, “which I will use to make a spell that will stop your husband from marrying the other woman”.
He advised her to get a knife and cut the hairs when the husband goes to bed and falls asleep. She believed him and agreed to act upon his advice.
Then the slave went to the husband and told him, “Your wife has found the love of her life and she longer wants to stay with you. She wants to get rid of you and tonight she is going to slit your throat with a knife”.
Perplexed and not-knowing-what-to-do, the husband asked for advice.
The slave said, “Don’t worry! Just pretend that you are sleeping when you go to bed.”
During the night, the husband and wife went to bed together. Believing that the husband has fallen into deep sleep, the wife sneaked out of the bed and grabbed a knife. Afterwards, she went close to her husband and put it under his neck to cut some hairs from his neck. Immediately, he started to think that the slave was right. She really wanted to kill him.
Therefore, without any delay, he jumped out of the bed, snatched the knife off her and slit her throat.
In the morning, the family of the wife arrived and discovered her dead body. Out of grief and anger, they killed the husband. After that, a long war was raged between the two clans that lasted for quite a long time.
The cause of this war was little lies told by a talebearing slave!
