Keeping A Masjid’s things for Personal Use

Keeping A Masjid’s things for Personal Use

Question:

I look after my local masjid voluntarily. Sometimes I have to throw away things that the masjid does not need anymore. Will it be allowed for me to keep them for my personal use?

Answer:

Yes. It can be used for personal use, however, you should pay the price of the item to the masjid so its necessities can be fulfilled with that money. However, If the masjid is not financially in need and will not need the money in the future, then it can be taken for free. (Fatawa Rahimiyah: 9/163)
