Once a lion, a wolf and a jackal together went out for a hunting mission. The mission went successfully. They were able to hunt three animals: one zebra, one deer and one rabbit.

When they returned to their own place, the lion asked the wolf to distribute the hunted animals fairly and justly.

The wolf said: “The zebra is for you. The rabbit is for the jackal, and the deer is for me.”

The distribution did not make the lion happy at all. Therefore, angrily, he pounced on the wolf and gouged his eyes out.

Seeing all of this, the jackal remarked: “How ignorant he is about fair and just distribution!”

The lion said to the jackal: “C’mon you, O jackal, and distribute fairly.”

The jackal said: “Your majesty, the matter is very clear. The zebra is for your lunch, the deer is for your dinner and the rabbit is to be enjoyed in between the two.”

Hearing this, the lion was very pleased and remarked: “How just you are! Where did you learn this from?”

The jackal replied: “From the eyes of the wolf.”
